ELIZA CAMPBELL FINDS FIVE WINE STORES OFFERING MORE THAN JUST GRE AT BOTTLES

-

01: Craft

BRISBANE

As the name might suggest, you’ll find small-batch, boutique producer and cult favourites at this Brisbane wine store. Owner Tony Harper opened Craft to reflect his love of collecting unique beverages from far and wide, which you’ll find reflected on the store’s shelves. Expect a huge and varied range of not only Australian, but also international wines, plus plenty of local and international craft beer and liquor. Go in with an open mind and let the well-versed and passionate staff help you find a new favourite (or three).

02: Heritage Wine Store

PERTH

In an annexed section of The Heritage Wine Bar’s dining room lives a new addition to the venue: Heritage Wine Store. With the original bar and eatery pouring one of the country’s most impressive wine lists (including more than 100 wines by the glass) it was a natural move to a retail front. The store is an extension of the existing wine offering, stocked with classics, emerging, and new-wave producers from across the state, Australia and beyond. Try a glass with dinner and take a bottle of it home for later. ..................................

Beers, spirits and organic, unsulphured ciders are also in stock – and all conveniently located across the road from the day-drinking-friendly Edinburgh Gardens.

SYDNEY

After the resounding success of its Bondi location, Native Drops has opened a second outpost on Crown Street in Surry Hills. An artisan wine, beer and spirit store, the venue aims to provide a considered, boutique beverage service alongside a rotating exhibition of local art, including masterclasses, free tastings and events. Expect familiar names mixed in with alternative styles and varieties, plus knowledgeable staff on hand to steer you in the direction of a winner.

05: East End Cellars

ADELAIDE

This Adelaide institution is one of the country’s most respected wine traders. With humble beginnings as a bottle shop on Vardon Avenue back in 1998, the venue has since expanded to become a retailer, wine bar, restaurant and tasting room. Pick any bottle from the store and drink it next door for an additional $15 – or there’s an extensive by-the-glass list for a little less commitment. East End Cellar’s incredible range of producers makes it a favourite among winemakers and wine lovers alike. You’ll find chilled reds and skin-contact styles next to Henschke Hill of Grace or Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Weekly tastings with young, up-and-coming makers are also hosted on site.
