Our very own palace
Our mini-bus navigated the streets with surprising ease. Horse- drawn carriages skittered out of the way of oncoming taxis seconds before collision; pedestrians darted across the road with confidence, some not even looking left or right. We spotted a lone camel sashaying along the sidewalk, surrounded by cyclists. A 20-minute drive later, we arrived on the outskirts of the New City. A majestic riad rose before us, decorated with rose bushes, fountains and swaying palms. Our room came with a small terrace and lawn, but the kids were drawn to the outdoor activities. There was golf, archery, cycling, tennis, gym classes, aqua aerobics, singing, cooking, scrabble, dance, and language classes. We spent the next five days eating rainbow-hued Moroccan salads and olives, visiting flourishing gardens and opulent palaces, and riding camels to nearby villages.
