Ski Northern Hemisphere

While you can have your fill of sun and sand this summer, helen hayes recommends adding a serve of snow with a ski or snowboard holiday in the Northern Hemisphere.

Enjoy a serve of snow with a ski or snowboard holiday in the Northern Hemisphere.

While the slopes of Australia and New Zealand are fantastic in the Southern Hemisphere winter, once the season is done and dusted it is a long time to wait for the next snowman, the next snowball in the face for Dad, that next lesson for your little one, the next blue run, black run or the next session in the terrain park.

Why wait? Over the long summer school holidays, head to the slopes of the USA, Canada, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy or Japan. Visit before Christmas to see the resorts in full holiday mode, with Santa sure to make an appearance, beautiful Christmas lights everywhere and, if in Europe, Christmas markets that will delight the whole family. Go after the first week of January and you’ll find no queues, as local kids have gone back to school. And there is always the thrill of skiing or snowboarding in another country, where you have the choice of adding in cultural explorations when ski legs are done.

Make it easy for your family by talking to the experts at Travelplan or Mogul Ski World, who can talk to you about exactly what you want and help you choose the right resort for your family. They can package up lessons, lift tickets, ski gear and accommodation – whether it be a charming chalet on the snow in France or Austria, a condo in Whistler, a slopeside hotel in Telluride or Western-style accommodation in Jackson Hole. And if you act early, you can take advantage of early-bird specials that really will save you money, meaning you can stay on the snow, longer.

While we love all the great snow destinations in the Northern Hemisphere, this time we are focusing on North America. But, whichever frosty northern route you choose, your family will thank you for it.
