WE LOVE... screen queens

-

While clean lines and airy, open-plan living spaces were high on Gail’s wishlist, she wanted the rooms to retain a warm and cosy feel. Hardwood batten screens, stained in Resene Weathered Grey, have proved to be a highly effective solution. “They keep the rooms much more open than solid walls, but still divide the spaces,” says Gail.

“I love THE LARGE LIGHT FITTINGS –THEY lovely ADD SUCH A AMBIENCE” ~ GAIL

HALLWAY Gail and designer

Tina have infused the home with warmth by introducing a well-considered collection of furniture, homewares and artwork. “I didn’t want the home to be all white and look like a hospital!” says Gail. In the central hallway (below), a vibrant Annie Everingham abstract, found at Fenton & Fenton, packs a colourful punch against walls painted in Dulux Natural White. Engineered French oak boards in Pale Grey, from Royal Oak Floors, provide the perfect base notes.

MAIN BEDROOM

A former garage found new life as a tranquil main bedroom

(top left), complete with a luxe walk-in wardrobe (bottom left) and ensuite. “There was a huge expanse of wasted space at the front of the house, so I decided to move the garage there,” explains Tina. Bedouin Societe linen and a Southwood Home throw rug complement the sleep zone’s serene aesthetic, while floaty drapes screen a large picture window overlooking a sunny central courtyard.

FAMILY BATHROOM

Less is certainly more in the beautiful family bathroom (left). Large-format stone-look Earp Bros ‘Madagascar’ tiles in Blanco form the base to a scheme that includes a vanity of Polytec

Satra Wood in Ravine and an above-counter Caroma ‘Pearl’ basin. A thriving potted fern brings a touch of nature inside.

ALFRESCO “I love to entertain when I have the time,” says

Gail. “Christmas is always at my house and, generally, New Year’s is as well. Everyone is relaxed here, which is lovely.” This sun-dappled space (opposite), partially enclosed by a batten screen and with a spotted-gum deck, is made for entertaining. The Casualife ‘Penthouse’ table and chairs pop against the emerald backdrop.
