Those of you who read my letters may remember that about a year ago, I excitedly announced that a leak in my bathroom meant I could justify renovating the tired, multi-coloured space. I’m just going to be honest... life got in the way of that. And not only life, but a feeling of being overwhelmed by all the options: even basic decisions such as choosing tiles felt beyond me! It’s about headspace, of course – I simply need to take 20 minutes with this (beautiful) magazine, tear out some pics and start thinking about what would work for us. It’s the perfect issue to do just that – 36 pages of gorgeous rooms with 75 inspiring ideas to steal, including a whole lot of stunning buys that might just inspire an entire fit-out. If bathroom renovating or simply updating is on your mind, I encourage you to do the same (turn to page 185).
Also in this issue we’re stepping behind the scenes of Channel 7’s
House Rules – we’ve picked the cream of the crop, our favourite rooms from the first six renos, to share with you (page 133). Some of the spaces far surpassed our expectations, considering how little renovating experience the contestants often have. To quote judge and HB editor-in-chief Wendy Moore, “We see some of the most creative ideas come from them, simply because they don’t know the rules of design. That can make for some incredibly original, intuitive design that is truly inspiring.” I’d have to agree – and it certainly puts my year-long paralysis about my bathroom into perspective.
For the decorators, don’t miss our Big Edit, as we call it here in the office. We’ve curated pages and pages of shopping dedicated purely to living rooms, so get your shop on from page 53. My favourite theme of this special is ‘Slow Living’ – it has the perfect wintry vibe that I’m going for this season.
