MODERN CLASSIC
THIS STRIKING EXTENSION TO A HISTORIC MELBOURNE BUNGALOW GAVE THIS FAMILY THE SPACE THEY NEED TO GROW AND A PLACE THEY CAN ALWAYS CALL HOME
“The finish looks so simple and clean and perfectly accentuates the modern window frames and angled lines.” - ROD AND MARIA
When Rod and Maria first bought their inner city Melbourne home, they knew it was where they wanted to raise their family. “The house was an old, classic beauty with great structure and period features, and it had so much potential to update,” explains Rod. Down the track as their family grew, that’s what they did, moving out for six months to renovate. “We essentially left the front six rooms of the house standing and demolished the rear to make way for the extension,” Rod says, crediting builders Tru Form Construction for achieving the end result. “Our builders are a husband and wife duo and they were brilliant. We highly valued their advice as they always had practical suggestions of how things could be done a bit better or a bit smarter. They helped us choose the fixtures, white goods and building products. I think we took on every one of their suggestions and haven’t regretted any of them.” Today, the house boasts a stunning modern extension with a large open combined kitchen/dining/living area that overlooks the pool and decking. Specifically designed to meet the growing family’s needs, “the new bathrooms, laundry and kitchen are really practical and a pleasure to live with”, says Rod. For the exterior, Rod and Maria’s architect suggested the Scyon™ Walls range by James Hardie™ as he had used them in previous designs. “He recommended it highly for its aesthetics and durability,” Rod recalls. “We were sold on the lack of maintenance and its contemporary look.” Scyon Matrix™ was used on the wall and awning of the renovation, while Scyon Stria™ cladding was used vertically. “I think the James Hardie Scyon Cladding Walls range has been the perfect product range to use around the back and side of the house,” says Rod. “The finish looks so simple and clean and perfectly accentuates the modern window frames and angled lines. The low maintenance is an added bonus! It really is a beautiful house and it’s very easy to live in.”
