ESSENTIAL CHIC
TAP INTO BATHROOM STYLE WITH SERIOUS VANITY FLAIR
More than just a place to stash your stuff, a beautiful vanity can turn heads and capture the essence of your bathroom style. The size of the room, number of people using the space and storage requirements will influence your design choice, yet interior designer Jenefer Gordon of Eat Bathe Live suggests thinking “outside the box” and pairing practicality with statement style. “Timber is a great choice, with vertical profiles on doors adding a modernist feel. Handle-less cabinetry is on-trend, while large, eye-catching handles, such as the Zuster range from Reece, can be a chic, bold feature.”
If you want streamlined, easy-clean style, consider a fully integrated basin and benchtop in marble, or go for a solid surface such as Corian. “Another option is pairing a custom vanity with a unique basin, with companies including Nood Co producing concrete basins in tempting colourways such as peach, mint and pretty powder-blue for a unique, memorable look.” Soft-close hinges, undermounted lighting and concealed power points will make the vanity a joy to use – and see.

This style, which includes built-in and freestanding units with various combinations of drawers, doors and open shelves extending to the floor, usually provides more storage. To avoid it looking bulky in a small space, Jenefer suggests opting for a style with legs, noting, “even short legs which lift the cabinet off the floor 10-15cm will make a big difference”.
“A BEAUTIFUL MIRROR THAT MATCHES THE SCALE OF YOUR VANITY WILL COMPLETE YOUR LOOK AND CREATE A FEELING OF LIGHT AND SPACE”
