Ed’s letter HB editor-in-chief Elle is dipping her toes into colour
Decorating with colour doesn’t mean you have to go wild, splashing vibrant hues across every surface. It can be as subtle a change as adding some greenery to a room or a pair of cheery taper candles to your dining table. As you can see from our gorgeous cover this month, the addition of blue soft furnishings and verdant green pot plants brings an uplifting dimension to the simple base palette.
Flowers, too, are the perfect styling element for anyone nervous about committing to colour. If you’re not feeling them after a week or so, you can put them in the compost and try something else! When experimenting with a new hue, coordinate or clash with your interior – either is fine. I love something that really pops against my mostly white and navy home, like deep magenta or fuchsia. If you’re looking for inspiration, flip to page 162 for fabulous palettes that you’ll really enjoy living with, plus loads of expert advice on how to use them.

I’ve been doing a bit of decorating of my own recently. More specifically, nesting. You see, I’m due to have a baby in a few weeks, which brings a whole new set of decorating dos and don’ts (my white slip-covered furniture is going to require a lot of Napisan!). While I duck out, our wonderful managing editor Katrina O’Brien will take the reigns as she has done so beautifully before.
