Chef André Chiang chooses to cook with Vipp Cult
Owner of six restaurants worldwide, André Chiang can now add “designer” to his impressive resumé. The celebrated chef, whose eponymous Restaurant André earned two Michelin stars and was ranked among the world’s best before closing its doors in 2018, recently relocated from Singapore to the countryside of Yilan, Taiwan.
There, amid seemingly endless rice fields, appears the minimalist concrete structure, conceived by André and architecture practice Lee Design Studio as a home for the chef and his family.
The kitchen
The kitchen occupies a central spot in André’s heart as well as in his home. For his family home, the chef opted for a captivating kitchen in black steel from Danish design brand Vipp. It comprises a series of cabinets in varied heights and a big island module, used as a workbench.
“I chose the Vipp kitchen because I do very heavy cooking,” explains André, who appreciates the sturdiness of the stainless steel work top. “My favourite detail of the kitchen is the gas stove design, with its solid gas knobs.” André says his mother taught him how to cook and “now it’s a family thing,” a shared passion between himself, his mother and his wife. “We spend many hours together in this kitchen,” he says.
Vipp
Since the 1930s, Vipp has designed timeless tools for every space and everyday. From humble beginnings with the now iconic Vipp bin, the Danish brand has built a legacy built on the desire to bring practical elements from the professional market into the private home. From custom modular concepts for the kitchen and bathroom, to highly engineered accessories, every Vipp product is imprinted with industrial design tradition.
Vipp is exclusively available through Cult in Australia and New Zealand. Vipp’s range of impeccably timeless kitchen and bathroom products is threaded with decades of industrial design tradition, and was sought after by André Chiang, one of the world’s top chefs, for his own home.
