Japanese artisans have long been recognized and admired for the beauty of their craftsmanship. In 1918, architect Frank Lloyd Wright invited father-and-son duo Hatsunojo and Chozaburo Ina to be technical advisors on the terracotta and tiles for his design of the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. Made with clay from Chita Peninsula and requiring original moulding designs and special firing techniques, the production required the establishment of a dedicated factory. Upon completion of the hotel, Hatsunojo and Chozaburo retained the factory to create what would become known as Inax.

Drawing on Japanese tradition and culture, Inax artisans continue the techniques and spirit of their inherited craftsmanship and relentless pursuit of quality. The vast range of exquisite and unusual tiles are inspired by traditional motifs, and created with intricately designed shapes and carefully calculated thicknesses to create textured effects and plays of light and shadow.

Inax produces handmade, extruded, sheeted mosaics and tiles suitable for a large array of applications in commercial, residential and hospitality projects. These porcelain ceramics have a unique glaze and colouring. The tiles undergo a long, slow baking process to make them exceptionally hard-wearing, rendering them suitable for walls, flooring and splashbacks in bathrooms, kitchens and laundries, as well as on exterior facades.

The range of mosaic tiles from Inax demonstrates Japanese artisans’ sensitivities towards the beauty of nature. Long and thin Yohen Border tiles have gradations of colour with a glaze that brings out the natural beauty and earthen tone of ceramics. Small, simple and superbly crafted, the 2×1 Inch tile range is one of the latest offerings from Inax. These tiles are made exceptional by the industrious Hanten finish, a special glaze developed to assist with cleaning that makes the range favourable compared to smoother glazed tiles.

Inax architectural ceramics have remarkably consistent finishes, with any variations in tone and colour removed from each batch. Beautifully textured Fabe tiles draw on Japanese architecture. These hard-wearing, brick-look tiles have a unique variation of colouring within each tile and their thin profile makes them ideal for flooring or external cladding.

Exclusive to Artedomus, Inax is recognized for its innovative range of interior and exterior architectural ceramics that embody superb manufacturing and leading designs by traditional artisans. All tiles are available in a variety of unique colours.
