8 Flatting the colours

The file is converted to RGB and the local colours are painted in as a flat tone on individual layers (in comics this process is known as flatting). Here, the file can grow greatly in size and it’s important to label your layers as you go along. For instance, on Eva Nine many pieces of her flatted colours are on separate layers, including her hair, skin, eyes and cloak. This may seem excessive at this stage, but it comes in handy when textures, lighting and shadows are added. Sections of line art are also coloured now.
