It needs an extra something…
So far things are looking good but my anti-hero could use some extra grit. Not to worry! I take my thumbnail sketch and overlay it on top my artwork. Now he’s looking much better. It’s always great to experiment and even go back to your earlier roughs if they translate better. I mask out any details of my thumbnail that I don’t need and am now ready to colour!

Build up the colours
Before I start, I merge my black and white layers down to keep things separate. I set a colour layer over the top of my artwork at 50 per cent Opacity. I then lightly colour over my character, working on the head and body separately. From there, I stick to the overlay and normal layers to gradually build up colours.
