4 Blend and block in shadows

I use my mid-range marker to lay in where I want my shadows. I begin to go back and forth between my lightest and my mid-range colour, to blend shapes together. By adding yellow to the cassowary’s neck it enhances the purple next to it.

You can start to gradually add some of the key colours here too: reds, purples and blues. Blending is all about going back and forth with markers. Lay in your base, then lay in your mid-tones and revisit with the base colour again to blend.
