Pushing the compositions’s colours and values

I use colour washes and levels adjustment layers to push the colours and values. I paste my entire image onto one layer, set it to Lighten, and paint directly on that layer with a large, soft brush set to Color Dodge. I pick warm and cool colours from my image and lightly dodge the layer to brighten the nose of my X-wing and highlight my Sith Lord. Ta da!
