The team wants more spe­cific el­e­ments, so I start do­ing a num­ber of black and white sketches. I usu­ally work with small cut­aways, or vi­gnettes to cre­ate fo­cus. Also note that more rounded shapes tend to be more wel­com­ing to the viewer, while sharper, pointed shapes cre­ate a sense of dan­ger. If I cre­ate enough story el­e­ments to show that the lo­ca­tion is ‘lived in’, it’ll make the player want to ex­plore the rest of the world, and give the writ­ing team plenty of bread­crumbs to write into the lore.
