Lucas Graciano uses composition and tones to create a dramatic fantasy image

Back in 2015 I was invited as a guest artist to a Magic: The Gathering event being held in Montreal, and given the task of designing an image that would represent the show.

The image would be used to promote the event, be printed on playmats and given away as rewards for attendees who did well in the tournament. I was given free range on the subject. It just had to fit the Magic brand in style, and somehow relate to the Canadian location.

With the artistic freedom I was given, I set off to design a dragon-riding warrior, which was something I already had kicking around in my brain when I received the assignment. This was a chance to both create something I was really inspired to paint, and complete an assignment, in one.
