Concept a deadly war beast
In this two-part workshop Rinehart Appiah paints a concept for Total War: Warhammer
To progress in the field of concept art, study and practice are both essential. To be comparable to others working within the games industry, having a good eye for shape and proportions are two of the most important fundamental skillsets you can develop.
In this workshop, I’ll take you through the process of how I concept a character for Total War: Warhammer using Photoshop and other techniques I’ve picked up through the years of working in the industry. I’ll start with quick shape exploration in the form of thumbnails and silhouettes, then I’ll move on to blocking in colour, establishing and rendering unique materials, and adding details with custom brushes. Finally, I’ll apply lighting techniques and shadows to complete the concept.
