Inside Out (Australia)

Making temporary changes can be fun, cheap and easy...

-

Gawd, I love a really great ‘before’ shot, don’t you? There is nothing like gratuitously bad decor decisions just aching to be fixed. A friend recently bought a place with the most incredible plush cobalt-blue velvety carpet I’ve ever seen, and while she was sweating and trying to point out the potential (“Just imagine there’s no carpet at all...”), all I could think about was how brilliant the ‘before-and-after’ shots were going to be.

Of course, she has a whole raft of exciting changes planned but, in the meantime, to buy her a bit of financial breathing space, she’s going to start the process of a ‘make-do makeover’. You know the type; a halfway measure that doesn’t cost the earth, but stops you feeling frustrated at the previous owners every time you look at that red flocked wallpaper. If you’re in a holding pattern waiting for that big reno, turn to page 112 for some great ‘phase one’ options. It’ll make the ‘phase two’ planning all the more exciting and informed.

When it comes to that big once- or twice-in-a-lifetime renovation, don’t underestimate the power of a solid statement detail. On page 114, we’ve introduced a new regular feature that shines the light on one killer architectural talking point. Seriously, check out the size of those glass doors! They look incredible, but does it make letting the cat in and out just that little bit more difficult? Or is it just me who battles with that? PS. If you’re reading this page curled up on the sofa, steer clear of page 52. You’ll find a stack of cosy bedding buys that’ll have you heading for the shops immediately. “The dream outdoor entertainingentertaining area (page 64).” “Got to love a bold statement in the bedroom (page 38).” “These treats look absolutely delish! (page 138).” WRITE IN TO WIN You could win a ‘ Striga’ travel Bag from Elk Accessories, valued at $285. Visit elkaccessories.com for a look.
