To me, a well-decorated home is a collection of personal dividends gathered from one’s own experiences and adventures in travel or day-to-day personal surroundings. I’ve lost count of the number of times a new-to-me place or seeing a routine experience in a new light has resulted in an overwhelming urge to bottle up one of these many sensory feelings to bring back home and into my decor.

Pattern and colour often go hand in hand, so it helps to consider the two decorating elements in tandem when planning a scheme. Much like colour, pattern is a great decorating element for creating a design statement, so it’s important to get the balance right. Here, I show you where to look for pattern ideas, as well as share inspiring and unique ways in which you can invite the patterns you love into your home. Do you like to mix, match and clash everything from shapes and dots to simple lines? Perhaps a pared-back approach to pattern is your style? Either way, read on to feel inspired by both. Pattern is best friends with colour – using these two elements in sync can lead to an effffortlessly stylish scheme. They work in harmony because they have the power to tame or enhance the visual strength of one another. For example, to heighten the visual power of a striped cushion, opting for a multicoloured stripe will create more of a statement than a single hue. Above, a white linen sofa provides a neutral base to layer typographic and patterned cushions. Pattern is also introduced via a glass lamp base and artworks.
