Inside Out (Australia)

Mr. Jason Grant

-

Stylist, author, and Bondi local, Jason is known for his sunny style and in-ithe-know shopping eye. Here he shares a few local secrets My ideal Christmas involves rest, relaxation, swimming, good food and friends. This year, it will happen in my favourite escape destination in Byron Bay, house-sitting with a bunch of my favourite people. My favourite tradition is a barbecue with summer-fruit pavlova! I’ll always have an Aussie-style Christmas and I do love a summer rosé. I like to shop at small stores for personal gifts. Three of my failsafe favourites are Small Spaces, Scout House and Hay. A cause that’s important to me at Christmas is The Wayside Chapel. I’m their newest ambassador and, this year, I’ve donated my time and skills to work on a local project creating much-needed funds for those in less fortunate situations. It feels good to give. This year, I’m buying Christmas hampers from my good friends at Farmgate Cheese – they do all the hard work after I have made my selection and they make the perfect festive gift. Christmas is really about eating, after all! I’ll be decorating my home with blue spruce, a few simple decorations from my own store and a handmade wreath. As a stylist, Christmas comes very early so by the time the actual day comes around, a little touch is all that’s required. All I want for Christmas is my very own stand-up paddleboard. It’s my new favourite thing and I know just the spot I’d like to use it… Follow Jason on Instagram at @mr_jason_grant and visit mjgstore.com.

Gift-giving emergencies are covered by one of Jason’s favourite shops, Scout House (bottom). My favourite Christmas tradition is Christmas morning – I love how the world stops for a day. My husband and I usually spend Christmas in Perth with our families, and my favourite part is a swim at the beach and seeing all the people wearing Christmas hats and bathers. There’s something funny about the juxtaposition of European Christmas culture with our Aussie climate that makes me giggle. All I want for Christmas is a sleep-in! And I’ve been eyeing off a Marc Martin print called Bedroom By Day, which I just love. This year, I’m buying a SodaStream; I’m expecting my second child just before Christmas, so fizzy water will be my wine substitute this year. A design I loved this year that I’d love to find under the tree is The Vallentine Project’s hand-detailed bedlinen – it’s amazing! My failsafe Christmas shopping destinations are Mr Kitly in Brunswick and Cibi in Collingwood. My most inspiring experience this year was seeing my daughter grow from baby to little girl and having chats with her. Next year, I’m hoping to travel to New Caledonia.
