ADesignStudio ‘LightGarden’ lights

- EDITED BY LOUISA BATHGATE

DESIGNER: Alex Fitzpatrick After working as an architectural lighting designer for five years, Alex’s first luminaire released under his own name was the LightGarden design. Inspired by nature, as well as advances in LED technology and systems, Alex says he has always been intrigued by the balance of the scientific and poetic elements of light. “LightGarden uses internally lit LED lights that are hidden from view, which creates a familiar vision of light bursting through the fittings, like sunlight through the branches of a tree,” he says. “The light fittings can also be transformed into a living vine as they meander across a wall to create a ‘garden’ of light.” Working from a modest studio in Sydney’s Watsons Bay, Alex is passionate about ensuring that the components are made in Australia. “We work in-house with local manufacturers to produce our pieces,” he says. The customisable nature of the materials and application of LightGarden is his favourite part, however: “I love seeing how designers and customers integrate the fittings into their projects and lives.” From $451 each, adesignstudio.com.au.
