Saving a little here will pay off with great design there

Each issue of Inside Out features beautiful homes, some more achievable than others. While I love my little sanctuary, it’s nowhere near as ‘complete’ as some of the houses we feature (sorry if I’ve crushed the illusion). But the point is that all the homes we include provide great inspiration to help you get your dream home on track.

With that in mind, in this issue we’re hoping to get you started in a few ways. First of all, we have some brilliant before-and-after examples. Real scenarios where clever people have taken the framework of a building and put their own unique, stylish stamp on it. Both interiors and exteriors have been transformed from ordinary structures into chic abodes. Turn to page 56 to see how these homeowners have made big changes.

My personal mission this issue (and year) is to start the process of achieving my long-term style goals. By that, I’m referring to the designer look that I may not be able to afford right now, but want to start investing in. Our feature on page 44 is all about knowing what the end state is and spending money on beautiful pieces that will help you create your forever look. It’s all about looking for vintage or up-and-coming designers who are in the same space so that when you do finally invest in that incredible table, chairs or sofa, it all fits together meaningfully.

For those of you who’ve just moved or are in the planning phase of your reno, fear not, you can still change things up. On page 34, we offer up eight ways you can makeover your home without opening your wallet or pulling out your card. All you need to do is roll up your sleeves. Have fun!
