Mater ‘Trumpet’ coat stand

-

The form: A two-metre-high coat stand with nine exaggerated trumpet-shaped pegs in three different sizes. What makes it special: The shape of the coat stand is utterly different from every other option available. With its apparently random trumpet-shaped pegs and undulating central stem, the design is as much a sculptural piece for the hallway or entrance area as it is a practical item for everyday use. Designed by Danish architect duo Space Copenhagen in 2009, the coat stand forms part of an ethically sourced collection of furniture and lighting pieces by Danish company, Mater Design. Made in India, the product comes in two quite different materials and finishes: sand-cast recycled aluminium, polished up to a shine as part of the Susbiz India sustainable manufacturing program, or in turned birch stained black. The design packs flat for ease of transportation and a reduced carbon footprint. Expect to pay: From $1100. Buy at: Cult, cultdesign.com.au.
