HOW TO BUY FIREWOOD
Demi Brown from the Australian Home Heating Association (homeheat. com.au) shares tips on getting the most from your wood. + Buy wood in spring or summer so that it’s completely dry and well-seasoned when you need to use it. The moisture content should be between 12 and 20 per cent: any higher and the wood will smoke excessively. + Store wood undercover in a dry, ventilated area. It’s fine to stack it, and the best method is in a criss-cross fashion to let the air circulate. + Choose a reputable supplier, preferably a member of the AHHA, to be sure you’re buying quality fuel that’s been collected and prepared appropriately.
