Tails 1.7

Privacy is important, although until recently we tended to take it for granted. There are many legitimate reasons you may want to keep your online activities private, after all we all use SSL when sending financial information. Tor is a technology designed to anonymise all your online activity by routing your traffic through multiple computers to hide your IP address.

It was initially designed by the US Navy and DARPA to secure intelligence communications. Tails is a live distro built around this. As it is a live distro, Tails not only leaves no trace of your activities online, but also saves nothing to the computer running it. All cookies and temporary data are stored in memory and wiped when the distro is shut down. This means it’s also useful for doing things like online banking on someone else’s computer. It means you don’t have to worry about any malware being installed on the computer, or leaving any potentially sensitive information behind.
