Linux Presentation Day

Do you remember your first time?

- LXF

Do you remember when you first stumbled upon Linux? For me it was the late 1990s and I dabbled with Corel Linux, a Debian based distribution (distro) that worked with the majority of my hardware. This started my Linux adventures but finding my local Linux User Group (LUG) helped me to learn more and socialise with like-minded people who enjoyed tinkering and exploring the world of open source software.

In 2014, the Berlin Linux User Group (BeLUG) started a new event called Linux Presentation Day that offers the general public an introduction to the Linux-verse and provides support for well-known Linux distros, such as Fedora, Ubuntu and SUSE. This, it was hoped, would generate new Linux users who will support their LUGs and help others sample Linux.

In 2015 the event expanded to 72 cities across Germany, Austria and Switzerland and attracted over 1,400 visitors. For 2016 the team are looking to expand the global reach of the event and have already been in contact with UK LUGs via their mailing lists. The event, which will take place on April 30, is an ideal opportunity for your LUG/Hackspace to open your doors to the public and show them how they can reinvigorate their old machines by using a lightweight distro, build cool projects with the Raspberry Pi and learn to code using many of the different languages available. It will also be a great opportunity to team up with others to create a marketplace of activities for visitors to sample.

The organising team are looking for sponsors across the world, so if you would like to know more about the event, head over to the website at
