Make:Shift:Do The UK Crafts Council are once again asking for maker/hack spaces to open their doors to the public and demonstrat­e their skills. On October 28-29, venues around the UK will hold events where the public can get hands on with technologi­es, such as 3D printers, CNC machinery and laser cutters. The events are free to attend and vary in scope dependant on the services provided by the venue. The first Linux Presentati­on Day was held on April 30 this year and had LUGs reach out to their communitie­s and explain the benefits of running Linux on all forms of hardware. Derby’s fifth Mini Maker Faire is taking place on October 22 at The Silk Mill. This great event will contain stalls and workshops covering the breadth of the maker movement. Mini Maker Faire events are great fun and enable children and parents to learn more about skills, such as soldering and electronic­s.
