Sysdig Cloud

-

It sometimes comes as a surprise to many end users, but open source developers have to eat too (and not just spend their time responding to support tickets and pull requests). Luckily, SaaS and paying for support of open-source products are pretty much accepted as the norm these days.

The commercial entity behind sysdig (found at https://sysdig.com as opposed to the open source .org address) has gone down the SaaS route with the launch of Sysdig Cloud, which firmly sits in the container monitoring niche.

Available as an internet or on-premise solution, Sysdig Cloud builds on the ability of the open source version to intercept system calls and collects them together for as many hosts as the user is willing to pay for ($20 per month per host, with up to 20 containers on each). These get slurped up to Amazon’s cloud where sysdig provides a set of nice real-time dashboards, integrations, the ability to replay system calls and nice drill down topology.

Given Sysdig Cloud’s focus on containers, it’s nice to see a monitoring tool that’s designed to report on the health of a service too (ie I may have some containers down, but overall my application is up and running). Obviously, this is a very competitive marketplace, but for someone who is building a microservices/ container-based application and looking for a monitoring solution, Sysdig Cloud is worth a place on the shortlist in my opinion. There’s a free trial for anyone wanting to give it a whirl.

?? ?? Built to impress even the most pointy haired of bosses, Sysdig Cloud is a SaaS service that provides a real-time overview of a platform using system call and metadata.
