Alexander Tolstoy is too busy to write any memos or record videos of hotel rooms, he’s too busy recording golden FOSS like: Seamonkey, GnomeRecipes,VPaint,Mermaid, Kadu,Inkscape,MPD,Eqonomize, Darktable,2H4U,Veraball.
The Mozilla project has been the home of the Firefox browser since 2004, but it’s worth considering that the reason for creating a brand new browser revolved around the bloat of the MozillaSuite, which itself was born from work on the opensourced NetscapeCommunicator. So, while Firefox became the flagship product in Mozilla, the classic Mozilla Suite continued on live and was later named Seamonkey. Today, Seamonkey is one of the most complete, powerful and feature-rich browsers even when put against either Firefox or Chromium.
SeamonkeySuite consists of a web browser, email client, WYSIWIG web page composer and an address book manager. Other features can be added as add-ons from the Mozilla store, such as Chatzilla (an IRC messenger), Lightning (calendar), DOM inspector and many others—many add-ons from the vast Mozilla collection are compatible with both Firefox and Seamonkey as the browser engine code in Seamonkey is synced with the engine from Firefox. For instance, the latest

Seamonkey2.46 has the same Gecko engine as Firefox49, so both browsers render web pages identically, in theory. Seamonkey keeps the tradition of the classic web browser, as it was seen back in late the 1990s (e.g. no Australislike interface). For many users, this design is more appealing than fancy modern browsers, but you can customise Seamonkey with a custom set of useful add-ons. This way you can bring back close buttons to tabs, turn the menu bar into a compact button and adjust the application behaviour to your liking. The essential Firefox addons, including the broad selection of ad blockers and audio/video downloaders are also compatible with Seamonkey.
Apart from the browser component, the suite also has a robust email client, which works with all modern mail services, such as Gmail. It’s noticeably lighter than Thunderbird and doesn’t have as many advanced features (e.g. you’ll need to manually fill in your incoming and outgoing server details), but it works beautifully. The Mozilla Composer is another nice addition for those who want to study HTML basics. Simply design a page in the visual editor and explore the code in the next tab.
