Pi news

The Pi is now the third best-selling computer platform ever.

-

The sales of Pi keep on growing, more than the Commodore 64 (and yes, soon its entire range), there’s a Mac Pi and Julia is here.

The Pi has sold more than 12.5 million boards, making this platform the third best-selling of all time. The other two being the Apple Mac and the IBM PC, so despite being third, you can safely say it’s in very good company. “The Commodore 64 had, until recently, the distinction of being the third most popular general purpose computing platform,” Eben Upton told a crowd at the Pi’s fifth birthday party. “That’s what I’m here to celebrate,” he said. “We are now the third most popular general purpose computing platform after the Mac and PC.”

Some people point out if you’re going to include the whole of the Pi range then surely you’d do the same with the Commodore 16, 64 and 128, but it’ll just be another year to surpass even these extended figures. So congratulations to the Pi community on another landmark!
