Arduino is once again a happy place to be, trademark wise at least, GPIOZero gets an update and Pimoroni gets older.

Hi, I’m Andy, and I live in Amsterdam with my wife and kids. I’m a web designer but I love to tinker with the Raspberry Pi!

I’ve been working with Linux for close to 20 years, firstly as a web designer and developer, working with the traditional LAMP stack, and more recently I’ve dug into physical projects with the Pi. A year ago, I picked up a Pi 3 for a retro arcade build I was working on with my son, then I found myself looking for more opportunities to mess around with hardware. Since then, I’ve completed a bunch of increasingly more challenging projects, including squeezing a Pi Zero W into a SNES controller and building a custom network speaker for our living room. I’m now working on a Robot Rover upcycled from a broken R/C car!

The Pi community is really supportive and welcoming. From maker companies like Pimoroni and Adafruit to individuals on Twitter, everyone is ready to help newbies. Much of what I’ve learnt has come from following examples on GitHub and tutorials on YouTube. There’s so much information out there, that even someone who’s never touched Linux could soon find themselves making awesome projects!

After meeting the team that runs Berlin Raspberry Jam at Maker Faire Berlin, I was inspired to host the first Raspberry Jam in Amsterdam ( http://amsterjam.me). The community has been so helpful – there’s a Slack group just for people setting up Raspberry Jams. It’s all coming together very smoothly, and it couldn’t happen without the support of this awesome community!
