Regular readers will know that the Bookshelf has been a feature of Linux Format DVDs for many years, but the list of books we include has changed little over the years. They may be good books, but many of you will have seen them all before.

So the plan is to add a new book for each issue. It will be our Book of the Month, which we will highlight on the DVD and in these pages, and then keep on the list for future issues. We’d love to hear back from you on this, both as feedback on the books that we include but also suggestions for books you think would be a good choice. Just remember that they must be available under a suitable licence because LinuxFormat is a commercial product.

Reading the synopsis of this month’s book got me wondering how any projects got off the ground when there’s so much to consider outside of the core coding and testing tasks. I suspect it’s because many projects start off small without considering such matters until later − sometimes too late. However, don’t let anything put you off starting your own software project. If you have an idea for a program, then go for it!
