Creating your own VNC remote stick

-

All these programs are great, but they need to be installed on your system and may be heavy for travel. In case you want to be able to use your machines remotely with computers you can’t or don’t want to install software to, use a USB stick.

You can use many distros for a live USB stick, but the smallest you can use is Tiny Core Linux. Adding just a few packages and combining them into a stick that can run with as little as 256MB of memory, gives you the possibility to use it on any system. With these packages, you can create both a command line and menu-based setup that runs with systems of many capabilities, without touching the installed system.

There are only six extensions you need above Tiny Core, plus the Java runtime, which will only be needed for built-in file transfer functions. If you’re using really low-end hardware you can pick another solution for file transfer, Filezilla for example. You can also enable on-screen chat on the system − ideal when you’re out and about.
