Distro watch
What’s down the side of the free software sofa?
PrIMtuX 4
This Debian-based distro, which was created by a team of school teachers for use in the education sector, has been updated. It now sports a unified look that can be customised using the HandyMenu. There has also been improvements to parental controls, making this a more tempting distro to use for student PCs. Check out the release announcement (in French, so you may need to use Google Translate if you’re not au fait with the language) at http://bit.ly/LXFPrimTux.
OPenIndIana 2018.10

Also included in the update is Python 3.5, along with a number of Python modules and much more. The release notes at http://bit.ly/LXFOpenIndianaRelease are well worth a read through.
Feren Os 2018.10
The “October snapshot”, a new stable version of Feren OS, has been released for download. It’s based on Linux Mint with Cinnamon as the default desktop environment, and it also supports 32-bit hardware, which is something of a rarity these days. Most of the work on this latest version concerns itself with improving the backend of Feren OS and its applications. For a full rundown, check out the release announcement at http://bit.ly/LXFFeren.
POP! Os 18.10
This is another release that’s emerged in the wake of Ubuntu 18.10. If you’ve got a desktop or laptop built by System76 (which specialises in Linux PCs), then Pop! OS will be the disto that comes pre-installed. The update comes with a new kernel, new graphic stack and the Gnome desktop environment. You can view System76’s devices at https://system76.com, while the release announcement for Pop! OS 18.10 can be found at http://bit.ly/LXFPopOS.
