LUG Exchange Programme

Why not spread the LUG word in person?

-

Keeping your LUG running is hard work. It’s not all about coffee, beer, biscuits and tech. LUG masters need to keep promoting and supporting their groups as they move ever-onwards with the next Linux project.

Just recently Birmingham and Shropshire LUGs held a “LUG exchange” where members from Shropshire LUG travelled to the newly rebooted Birmingham LUG to present a talk led by Heather Lomond on Shropshire’s latest balloon project. The exchange generated plenty of interest and increased attendee numbers by over 280 per cent! So for just a little outlay in time and planning, they were able to generate a lot of interest.

This event, and the act of an exchange programme, has caught the eye of a few LUG masters on the LUG Master mailing list and there are plans for Tim Williams of Birmingham LUG to visit Rugby LUG and speak about video encoding at its meeting. Visit Birmingham LUG at www.birminghamlug.org.uk for further information.

There’s nothing stopping your LUG from adopting this idea. Travelling for up to an hour each month means that we can take part in other LUGs and groups, experience their events and learn about their perspective on the Linux and free software community. All you need to do is contact a local LUG and see what happens.

I’ll be mentioning this exchange programme to members of my LUG (Blackpool Makerspace and LUG) to see if anyone is interested in travelling to a few other LUGs in the north west of England. If your LUG takes part in an exchange, let your fellow Linux

Format readers know!
