SEARCHING FOR BOOKMARKS

-

When you import the bookmark.html file into another existing Buku database, on another machine for instance, Buku will only import unique URLS and leave all other bookmarks in the existing database untouched. In this fashion, you can easily sync the bookmarks across different devices without worrying about creating duplicate entries. You can perform keyword searches through the database with

Buku. The default search options matches any of the specified keywords in the URL, title or tags and displays the results. You can alternatively run the buku -S keyword1 keyword2 command.

You can also search for bookmarks using multiple tags with the buku --stag tag1, tag2, tag3 command. The tool will display all bookmarks which match any of the specified tags. The command buku --stag tag1 + tag2 will similarly display bookmarks that match both the specified tags. In a similar way you can use the + and – symbols to define the keywords or tags you want to match or exclude from the search.

All these search examples perform exact matches for the specified keyword or tags. If you wish to match substrings too, you must use the --deep command option.

You can also combine different command options with the search feature. For instance, the command buku --stag legal + interest -u --tag + bank will search for bookmarks which have both the legal and interest tags, and then update these bookmarks with the bank tag.
