We try and help out buying or building a new Linux packing PC, the Archive rises its ugly head, we remember we’re on Zinio and try and help escaping Apple, but fail.

Total Format

I saw in your magazine that I can download nearly the entire archive of magazines at once, but I cannot find that link, only the ones for individual magazines. Where can I find a link for the entire archive?

Karen Williams Neil says…

You know, no one has asked for that before. The Archive was created in Times of Legend and was never set up to be usable, so this isn’t something we can just flick a switch and offer. Thinking about it, we could offer “year packs” on a static page, much like we do for the LU&D content. That’ll give Jonni something to do rather than bailing out his sinking boat. Karen (in a follow up) did point out that my reply in LXF259 was a little ambiguous, as to exactly what you can download, apologies for this.

Go Zinio

You can read Linux Format on Zinio as well. Now if only they could let me CTRL+C the damn text here for context. Pedro Francisco

Of course we’re still on Zinio! This used to be the go-to recommendation for digital users, as Zinio does support

Linux, unlike most other services, but ever since the myfavouritemagazine.co.uk system has enabled us to manage digital subscriptions we’ve recommended digital subscribers go through there. Why? We can give them a subscriber number that then gives you access to the linuxformat.com/archives and you get Drm-free PDF access back to issue 66.

As it is Google News subscribers have (should have) been moved to https://pocketmags.com and life goes on. But we’d check that out.

Beating Windows

These days most of us Norwegians work from home for obvious safety reasons. Our professional meeting point is in front of a computer running live video. So today I connected to our video service of choice, whereby.com, however my camera did not work. After thoroughly testing my computer, a Thinkpad X1 Yoga, I ended at a blank. Tech support was no help. This is with up-to-date Windows 10 Pro.

So what could I do? I downloaded my favourite Linux distro, Fedora Workstation Live, rebooted, and as if by a miracle, my camera worked fine and I could attend the video meeting. From now, the memory stick with Fedora will always stay with me and my Windows office computer. Thanks for your fine magazine, which is now filling up my bookshelf. Truls Gulbrandsen

I’m not going to start gloating, I’ve seen far too many things break on Linux boxes, MACOS, Windows, Amiga, DOS and so on to know this could happen to anyone!

?? ?? Magazines on tablets, this is madness!

?? ?? What were they thinking in 2005??? Probably that this wouldn’t still be running 15 years later…
