Battery life
Can you keep your Chromebook running all day long?
Acer states that the Chromebook R 13’s three-cell, 4,670 mah battery will last for 12 hours. And, in our experience, that’s not too much of an exaggeration. With the brightness of the display set to 100 nits the Acer managed a solid 11 hours. This is just shy of two hours past the average and up there with the best, but bear in mind that the Arm-based processor isn’t exactly pushing things.
The original Asus Flip’s battery performance set the standard that others had to beat of nine hours of run time and the Flip C434 manages just that, running up to 10 hours with our standard 100 nit browsing test. While this is good, overall in the category it’s overshadowed by other models in this test.
There’s no arguing with the Pixelbook Go’s battery life – it clearly puts in one of the best performance possible. Google claims 12 hours and we recorded 11 hours 29 minutes. That’s a good two hours more than most Chromebooks manage. If decent battery life is your primary requirement when purchasing a Chromebook then look no further. Even with its budget background the HP Chromebook will stay powered up for an entire working day. The laptop lasted for a good nine hours and 18 minutes on our battery test, which involved continuous web surfing over wi-fi while setting the screen to 150 nits of brightness.
The Yoga Chromebook C630’s large 4K display takes a serious toll on the life of its battery. With a runtime of just six hours and 53 minutes in our battery test involving continuous web surfing over Wi-fi at 150 nits, the Chromebook C630 powers down long before the average Chromebook, the 1080p model wold do better.
