Years ago, there was a trend of publishing PC games on mobile platforms, but recently this trend has reversed. The depths of Github have lots of good examples of mobile open source games made using web technologies, now available on the desktop too. Many of them can be found in the Google Play Store and App Store coupled with annoying ads, telemetry and in-game purchases. Wouldn’t it be nicer to run it on a desktop in a pure form and play without any sort of disturbance?

That’s exactly the case for Matchimals.fun, a puzzle card game for kids and adults. The top card on the table has four halves of different animals. Take another card from the deck and try to connect to it, and if the halves match, you score points. It’s very simple and close to the original Busy Bee card game from 1959. Matchimals.fun is designed for one to four players (although playing alone defeats the game’s purpose) who take turns one after another, no matter if they have a matching card within a turn or not. If they don’t, push the ‘Pass’ button and wait for the next turn. Matchimals.fun is fun and intriguing for several reasons. Firstly, you never know who is going to win as even the worst player can get several bestmatching cards in the end and catch up with the others. Next, the game trains your pattern recognition and attentiveness (regardless of the player’s age), because you need to decide if you have a matching card or not manually. Finally, Matchimals. fun features very nice and attractive artwork, which is very easy on the eyes.

To run the desktop version of Matchimals.fun, first install its Nodejs dependencies ( $ npm i ), then start the React Native server ( $ yarn start ) and finally launch the web version of the game in a separate terminal ( $ yarn run web ).
