Rapid Photo Downloader
Version: 0.9.33 Web: https://damonlynch.net/rapid
Rapid Photo Downloader (RPD) is designed for transferring photos and videos, and a lot more besides. It’s perfect for downloading, processing and organising photos and videos.
The tool gives you complete control over how it processes and sorts the downloaded photos. Its default rules automatically transfer the downloaded photos inside date-based subfolders.
You can also define custom rules as per your requirements. For example, you can ask the program to sort photos by their type, which comes in handy if you shoot both RAW and JPEGs.
In fact you can create a complex subfolder hierarchy by defining naming rules based on specific EXIF values, such as focal length, ISO and so on. You can also specify an external USB storage device as the backup destination, and the tool will automatically back up the photos while downloading them from the camera.
Instead of putting out binaries, the Rapid Photo Downloader project has an installation script written in Python. To install the tool, simply download the script and execute it:
$ wget https://launchpad.net/rapid/ pyqt/0.9.33/+download/install.py
$ python3 install.py
This will fetch all the dependencies before installing the program. When it’s done you can launch RPD from your applications menu. The tool has an intuitive interface. On the left is RPD’s unique Timeline feature, which groups photos and videos based on how much time elapsed between consecutive shots. You can use it to identify photos and videos taken at different periods in a single day or over consecutive days.
The Devices section on the left lists all detected devices, and you can select an action you wish to perform on the images by selecting the appropriate tab in the right-side of the interface.
