FIRST-PERSON SHOOTER Xonotic
Version: 0.8.5 Web: https://xonotic.org
Xonotic is a free and fast-paced first-person shooter that includes arena-style gameplay with rapid movement and a wide array of deadly weapons.
Although Xonotic draws inspiration from games like Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament, it’s developed a style all of its own with stunning high-resolution graphics, immersive maps, weapons, characters, and more. Xonotic has nine core weapons and 16 full weapons. Each weapon has a UT-like secondary fire, giving you more bang for the buck.
There are 16 different game modes in Xonotic, including classic modes like deathmatch and capture the flag. Xonotic has 18 official maps from small to large. Many more are also available from the community, including those ported from Quake. The game can be played online against other players or played offline against bots.
While many Linux distributions do package Xonotic in their repos, this will generally be an older version. The easiest way to play Xonotic is to download the ZIP archive from the xonotic.org website, extract it somewhere accessible, then run the binary to play:
$ wget -c https://dl.xonotic.org/xonotic-0.8.5.zip $ unzip xonotic-0.8.5.zip
$ cd Xonotic
You can run xonotic-linux-glx.sh or xonoticlinux-sdl.sh , depending on which works better on your hardware.
There’s been thousands of commits since 0.8.2 including refined gameplay, new and updated maps and models, new sound effects, more dangerous bots, new HUD and menu features, more translations, better infrastructure, too many fixes to count, and much more.
Almost every area of the game has been tweaked, tuned or transformed, from its levels, graphics and character models through to the bots that you can play against.
