Warming up for winter

-

T he temperature outside has tumbled, and at LP& Q HQ we're scrambling for our big coats and mittens! With sartorial protection from the elements sorted, planning how to stay warm indoors is next. A good place to start is curled up on the sofa under a quilt, or tucked up in bed with a favourite cushion. Cocoon yourself in fabric and enjoy what I like to think of as the ' hunker down and snuggle up' issue!

Katarina Rocella's fabric line Indelible, all stormy greys and dramatic purples, is perfect for Lynne Goldsworthy's winter warmer quilt. Dive into the giant hexies for a cheeky afternoon nap by the fire. For a chic Scandi vibe, see Judith Dahmen's bold log cabin quilt. The red centre of the log cabin block represents the hearth or heart of the home, and feels very apt at this time of year. Even our pets slow down and seek warmth in the winter, so Ali Burdon's sweet pet bed and accessories are the perfect way to ensure they feel safe and loved. Mini quilts were all over Quilt Market this year ( how I miss the warmth of Texas) and I'm thrilled to kick off a series of these little gems this issue with Elizabeth Dackson. Minis are perfect hung on the wall to create a cosy, welcoming atmosphere.

Maybe the lady doth protest too much. I am Scottish after all, and secretly love any excuse to pile on the quilts as the cold wind howls outside. As the saying goes, there's really no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes. But a plentiful fabric stash and the right projects also help, so keep warm this winter – keep quilting!
