TRIANGLE ROW

12 Place a white Unit B piece RST with a coral triangle, aligning along the right side. Sew together as shown ( Fig 1). Press seam toward the triangle. 13 Next, place a pink triangle RST aligning along the right side of Unit B. Sew together, and press the seam towards the triangle ( Fig 2). Add a Unit A to the right edge of the pink triangle ( Fig 3).

14 Continue adding pieces to the right side of the row in the same order until you have a long strip with fifteen (15) coral triangles, fourteen (14) pink triangles, fourteen (14) Unit A and fourteen (14) Unit B pieces. Note, the row will end with a coral triangle ( Fig 4). Repeat to make four (4) rows.

BLOCK A

15 Sew two 3½in x 1½in coral rectangles to the top and bottom of a 3½in navy square, pressing seams open. Add two (2) 5½in x 1½in coral rectangles to the sides and press seams open ( Fig 5). 16 Add the white, aqua and dark turquoise strips around the block, as shown ( Fig 6). For each colour, add the short strips in place first, then sew the longer strips, pressing all seams open.

17 Repeat to make six (6) A blocks in total.

BLOCK B

BLOCK C

BLOCK E

18 Using the same method as above, create seven (7) blocks, referring to

Fig 7. Using a quilter’s ruler and rotary blade, cut each Block B in half diagonally. 21 Referring to Fig 12, lay out the white and coral pieces for Block C. Sew the pieced units together in rows, pressing the seams toward the coral pieces. Join the rows to complete, pressing seams open. Repeat to make a total of five (5) C blocks. 24 Place a 3½in white square on a 3½in medium turquoise square RST. Sew a ¼in from the line on each side. Cut along the drawn line to separate and press seams open to make two HSTs ( Fig 15). Trim each HST to 3in square.

Make one-hundred and twenty-six (126) medium turquoise/white HSTs.

ASSEMBLING THE A/B ROW

19 Take one of the B blocks, and place it RST on the right side of the Block A as shown ( Fig 8), aligning the square edge up with the A block, and letting the tips of the diagonal corners extend past the edge. Sew in place and press away from the diagonalcut block. Sew a second Block B to opposite side of the A block ( Fig 9). Repeat to make six units total.

BLOCK D

22 Referring to Fig 13, lay out the white and pink pieces for Block D. Sew the pieced units together in rows, pressing the seams toward the pink pieces. Join the rows to complete, pressing seams open. Repeat to make four (4) D blocks in total. 25 Repeat the step above to make thirty (30) navy/white and twelve (12) coral/white HSTs. 26 Lay out your squares as shown in Fig 16, using four (4) 3in white squares, four (4) 3in medium turquoise squares, ten (10) navy/white HSTs, four (4) coral/white HSTs, and forty-two (42) medium turquoise/white HSTs. Sew the squares together in rows, then sew the rows together to complete Block E. Make a total of three (3) E blocks.

ASSEMBLING THE C/D ROW

20 Sew the six units together into one row ( Fig 10). Add the two remaining B block pieces to the ends of the row to complete the pattern ( Fig 11). To complete the A/B row, trim the each end ¼in from the point of the end A blocks. 23 Sew the C and D blocks together in an alternating pattern. Make sure the row starts and ends with a C block ( Fig 14). Sew a 2½in x 14½in white rectangle to each end of the row and press open.

BLOCK F

27 Sew a 15½in x 3¼in white rectangle along top and bottom a 15½in aqua square and press seams open. Sew tow 21in x 3¼in white rectangle to opposite sides of the aqua square and press open to complete Block F ( Fig 17). Make a total of four (4) F blocks. Cut each block in half diagonally.

ASSEMBLING THE E/F ROW

28 Sew one of your F block triangles to one side of an E block. Sew a second diagonal F block to opposite side of the E block ( Fig 18). Repeat to make three (3) units. 29 With your remaining two F block triangles, sew an 8½in white square to the left side, as shown ( Fig 19). 30 Sew all the units together into one row. Trim the row along the centre of the 8½in squares at the ends ( Fig 20).

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT

31 Sew two (2) 2½ x WOF sashing pieces end-to-end. Add one (1) 2½in x 21in sashing piece to the end of that. Press seams open. You will need eight (8) total. Fold the sashing pieces in half on the long edge, and mark the centre. 32 Take the triangle rows and find the centre coral triangle. Make a mark at the top and bottom centre of these triangles. The marks will help you centre these rows when adding to the quilt. 33 Pin and assemble your rows referring to the photo, carefully matching up the centres of each row.

FINISHING THE QUILT

34 Cut your backing fabric into three (3) 2¾yd x WOF pieces. Sew two of the pieces together along the long edge and press open. Cut the remaining piece of backing in half so the two pieces are approximately 22in x 2¾yds. Sew these pieces to the top and bottom of your pieced backing. Press seams open. 35 Layer your quilt top, batting and backing together and baste with pins or adhesive spray. Quilt as desired. We quilted a 3in diamond pattern. Trim away any excess batting and backing and square up your quilt. 36 Cut ten (10) 2 ½ in x WOF strips from your remaining fabric for binding. Sew the strips together on the short end to make one long strip. Press in half lengthwise and use to bind your quilt.
