THIS MINI IS PERFECT FOR SHOWING OFF YOUR FAVOURITE PRINT. FUSSY CUTTING THE CENTRE SQUARE GIVES THIS SUPER-STYLISH QUILT AN EYE-CATCHING FOCAL POINT.

NOTES

Seam allowances are ¼in, unless otherwise noted. Press seams open, unless otherwise instructed. RST = right sides together. HST = half-square triangle. WOF = width of fabric. Wash and press all fabrics well before cutting.

FABRICS USED

The animal print is Menagerie in Onyx, Indian Summer by Sarah Watson for Art Gallery Fabrics.

CUTTING OUT

1

From Fabric A (animal print) fussy cut one (1) 8½in square.

2

From Fabric C (B&W sketch print) cut five (5) 7in squares.

3

From Fabric B (teal) cut two (2) 8½in x 2½in rectangles and two (2) 12½in x 2½in.

4

From background fabric cut five (5) 7in squares and two (2) 6½in squares.

5

From binding fabric cut three (3) 2¼in by WOF strips.

CENTRE BLOCK

6

Sew the two 2½in x 8½in rectangles of Fabric B to the top and bottom of the square of Fabric A and press (Fig a).

7

Sew the two 2½in x 12½in rectangles of Fabric B to the sides and press (Fig b).

HSTS

8

Pair all 7in squares of Fabric C RST with the 7in squares of background fabric. Draw a diagonal line in pencil on each pair from corner to corner. Sew ¼in away on both sides of the drawn line. Cut along the line (Fig c).

9

Press open and trim each HST to 6½in square (Fig d). You should have ten (10) HSTs in total.

10

Pair two HSTs together and sew as shown (Fig e). Make two pairs.

11

Sew two rows of three HSTs and one 6½in square of background fabric (Fig f). Make sure the square of background fabric is sewn to the Fabric C edge of the HST.

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT

12

Take one pair of HSTs and sew to the side of the centre block (Fig g). Repeat on the other side, the other way up, as shown in the main image.

13

Sew the two rows of HSTs and background square to the top and bottom of the centre block, as shown. Pay careful attention so the background fabric is on the outer edge of the block all the way around.

14

Baste and quilt as desired, then attach your preferred method of hanging device (we used folded corners for the pole ends to slide into). Sew binding strips end to end to form one length and use to finish.
