From the binding fabric cut five (5) 2½in x WOF strips.

PIECING THE HSTS

Take one 7½in Fabric A square and one 7½in Fabric G square. On the wrong side of the Fabric G square mark a diagonal line from corner to corner. Place the squares RST, with the Fabric G square on top. Stitch ¼in either side of the marked line and then cut through both layers on the marked line (Fig 1).

Open the units out and press. Keeping the 45-degree line of your ruler aligned with the diagonal seam, trim to 7in square to make two A/G HSTs (Fig 2).

Repeat steps 9–10 with the remaining 7½in squares to make a total of the following: Ten (10) A/G HSTs. Four (4) B/G HSTs – you need three so will have one left over. Four (4) C/G HSTs. Two (2) D/G HSTs. Two (2) E/G HSTs –#you need one so will have one left over. Eighteen (18) F/G HSTs – you need seventeen so will have one left over. Two (2) B/E HSTs – you need one so will have one left over.

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT TOP

Take the thirty-eight HSTs and ten 7in Fabric G squares. Arrange into eight rows of six units each, referring to the photo for colour placement.

Join the units into rows and then join the rows to complete the quilt top.

QUILTING AND FINISHING

Remove the selvedges from the backing fabric and press well.

Make a quilt sandwich by placing the backing fabric right side down, the batting on top, then the quilt top centrally and right side up. The backing and batting are slightly larger than the quilt top. Baste the layers together using your preferred method.

Quilt as desired. This quilt was quilted by Elizabeth Lee of Golden Isles Quilting with a geometric pattern.

Trim off the excess batting and backing fabric and square up the quilt.

Join the binding strips together end-to-end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open and trim away the dog ears, then fold in half lengthwise, WST, and press.

Sew the binding to the front of the quilt, folding a mitre at each corner.

Fold the binding over to the back of the quilt and hand stitch in place to finish.
