HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES

9

To make two HSTs at once, pair two squares RST and draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the back of one. Sew ¼in away on both sides of the line (Fig A). Cut on the line (Fig B). Press open and square up to the specified size (Fig C). This makes two HSTs.

10

Pair the following 5½in squares and make HSTs, using the HST instructions in step 9. Make one Fabric C/G pair, one Fabric A/C pair, two Fabric E/E pairs and two Fabric F/F pairs. Once sewn, trim each HST to 4¾in square.

11

Pair each of your Fabric A 7¼in squares with a Fabric B 7¼in square and make HSTs as before. Carefully trim each HST to 6½in square.

12

Pair each of your Fabric C 7½in squares with a Fabric D 7½in square and make HSTs as before, trimming each one to 6¾in.

MAKING THE CORNER UNITS

13

Place one of your 2½in squares of Fabric A on top of the Fabric B corner of your

6½in square HST and draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. Sew on this line (Fig D). Cut ¼in away from your sewn line towards the outer corner (Fig E). Press open (Fig F). Make four of these units.

14

Cut your Fabric C/D HSTs in half with a line running perpendicular to your seam (Fig G). Place these new triangles on either side of the block from step 13, as shown (Fig H) and sew to complete one corner unit. Make four corner units.

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT

15

Using all of your 4¾in HSTs and your remaining 4¾in squares of Fabrics A and G, sew together in four rows of four as shown (Fig I). Next, make sure that the seams of your Fabric E/E and Fabric F/F HSTs are all facing the right directions. They should form a diamond shape when arranged correctly.

16

Sew your four rows together to complete the centre panel (Fig J).

17

Centre one corner unit along one of the sides of your centre panel. Sew in place (Fig K). Repeat with the remaining corner units to complete the quilt top.

18

Make a quilt sandwich and baste, using your preferred method. Quilt as desired. Nicole used her walking foot for some straight line quilting on her mini.

19

Trim away any excess batting and backing fabric and square up. 20

Sew your binding strips together end to end with diagonal seams. Fold along the full length, wrong sides together, and press. Machine sew the binding to the front of the quilt, then fold it over to the back and hand stitch in place to finish.
