CUTTING OUT

1

From each of the pink print fabric fat quarters cut:

(80) pink HRTs.

2

From each of the orange fabric fat quarters cut:

■ Four (4) 11in x 8in rectangles. Subcut each in half on the diagonal, for a total of eighty

(80) orange HRTs.

3

From the background fabric cut:

■ Five (5) 11in x WOF strips. Subcut to make a total of eighty (80) 2½in x 11in rectangles.

■ Ten (10) 6in x WOF strips. Subcut to make a total of one hundred and sixty (160)

2½in x 6in rectangles.

4

From the binding fabric cut:

■ Seven (7) 2½in x WOF strips.

PIECING BLOCK A

5

On the unprinted side of one Block A template, place one background fabric

2½in x 11in, with the wrong side against the paper. Make sure the fabric covers all of Section 1 plus ¼in all the way around. Place one orange print fabric HRT right sides together with the white strip, so that it overlaps a little over ¼in beyond the seam line between Sections 1 and 2.

6

Using a shortened stitch length, sew on the line between Sections 1 and 2. Fold back your paper and trim the seam to ¼in. Open out the template and press the orange triangle away from the white strip, to cover Section 2.

7

Place the pink HRT RST with the white strip, so that it overlaps a little over ¼in beyond the seam line between Sections 1 and 3. Sew on the line between Sections 1 and 3. Fold back and trim. Then press the pink print fabric triangle away from the white strip, to cover Section 3.

8

Repeat for Sections 4 and 5 using two background fabric 2½in x 6in strips.

9

Trim the block using the dashed line around the template. Repeat to make a total of forty (40) Block A.

PIECING BLOCK B

10

Repeat steps 5–9 using the Block B template, this time covering Section 2 with a pink print fabric HRT and Section 3 with an orange print fabric HRT. Make a total of forty (40) Block B.

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT TOP

11

Arrange the blocks into ten rows, with eight blocks each. Refer to the Layout Diagram for placement.

12

Sew the blocks together, pressing the seams open to reduce bulk.

QUILTING AND FINISHING

13

Cut the backing fabric in half across the width. Remove the selvedges and sew the two pieces together using a ½in seam. Press the seam open.

14

Press the quilt top and backing well. Make a quilt sandwich by placing the backing fabric right side down, the batting on top, then place the quilt top centrally and right side up. Baste the layers together using your preferred method.

15

Quilt as desired. Jenn has quilted lines echoing the background stripes going

down the quilt. Trim off the excess batting and backing fabric and square up the quilt.

16

Sew the binding strips together end-to-end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Fold in half lengthways, wrong sides together, and press.

17

Sew the binding to the right side of the quilt, creating a neat mitre at each corner. Fold the binding over to the back of the quilt and hand stitch in place to finish.
