■ Two (2) 5½in squares.

2

From each of Fabric B and C cut:

■ One (1) 5½in square.

MAKING THE BLOCK

3

Pair one Fabric A and B 5½in square, RST. Draw a diagonal line on the reverse of one square. Sew ¼in from either side of the line, trim along the line and press each unit open. Leave the units untrimmed.

4

Draw a diagonal line on the reverse of one HST unit, perpendicular to the seam. Place the two HSTs RST, aligning the seams. Each Fabric A triangle should be opposite a Fabric B triangle. 5

Sew ¼in from either side of the line on your HSTs. Trim along the drawn line and then press open. Square up each unit to measure 4½in square, carefully centring where the seams cross, to complete two hourglass units.

6

Repeat steps 3–5 with a Fabric A and C

5½in square, to make two hourglass units.

7

Sew the hourglass units and remaining Fabric A squares, in rows (Fig 1). Sew the rows together to complete the block (Fig 2).
