PIECING THE MINI QUILT TOP

10

Place one of the Fabric A2 2¾in HSTs right sides together with a Fabric A1 2½in square, as shown, using a scant ¼in seam (Fig A). Sew along the left edge of the square.Press open (Fig B). Repeat with a second Fabric A2 2¾in HST, sewing along the top edge of the square. Press open (Fig C) to create a triangle shape.

11

Place one of the Fabric A2 4¾in HSTs right sides together with the pieced unit and sew together along the long diagonal edge. Press open (Fig D).

12

Place one of the Fabric A3 4¾in HSTs right sides together with the pieced unit. Sew along the left edge and press open. Repeat with a second Fabric A3 4¾in HST, sewing along the top edge of the square. Press open.

13

Then place one of the Fabric A3 8¾in HSTs right sides together with the pieced unit and sew together along the long diagonal edge. Press open (Fig E).

14

Place one of the Fabric A4 8¾in HSTs right sides together with the pieced unit. Sew along the left edge and press open. Repeat with a second Fabric A4 8¾in HST, sewing along the top edge of the square. Press open (Fig F).

15

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT TOP

16

Place one Fabric A Unit and one Fabric B unit right sides together. Sew together and press open (Fig G). Repeat with the remaining Fabric A and B units, then sew together to complete the mini quilt top.

QUILTING AND FINISHING

17

Press the quilt top and backing well. Make a quilt sandwich by placing the backing fabric right side down, the batting on top, then place the quilt top centrally and right side up. Baste the layers together using your preferred method.

18

Quilt as desired. Nicole has quilted parallel lines echoing the triangle shapes of each section of the quilt, in threads that coordinate with the fabrics in either section. Trim off the excess batting and backing fabric and square up the quilt.

19

Sew the binding strips together end-to-end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Fold in half lengthways, wrong sides together, and press.

20

Sew the binding to the right side of the quilt, creating a neat mitre at each corner. Fold the binding over to the back of the quilt and hand stitch in place to finish.
