■ Eight (8) 2in squares.

2 From the white fabric cut:

■ Four (4) 2in x 3½in rectangles.

■ Eight (8) 2in squares.

PIECING THE BLOCK

3 Draw a diagonal line on the back of each 2in square, from corner to corner.

4 Arrange a white 2in square at one end of a print 2in x 3½in rectangle, right sides together. Sew along the drawn line, trim with a ¼in seam allowance and press (Fig 1). Repeat on the opposite corner to make one Flying Geese unit (Fig 2).

6 Trim any dog ears and square up your blocks to 2in x 3½in, if necessary.

7 Position your blocks in four rows of two, referring to Fig 3 for placement. Sew together in pairs, then sew the pairs together. Trim to 6½in square to complete one Hugs and Kisses block.

8 For the finished quilt, make seven Hugs and Kisses blocks in total. Make two blocks with dark blue fabric, two with green fabric, two with light blue fabric and one with yellow fabric.
